MAG365 FAQs
Below are some common questions about MAG365 Ionic Magnesium Citrate.
Provided you don’t have any kidney conditions (excess magnesium is excreted by the kidneys so you want to make sure your kidneys are functioning enough to do this job), the only side effect of MAG365 is loose bowels if too much is consumed, as the body will work to rid itself of any excess magnesium. Some customers report having more vivid dreams due to improvement in their sleep cycles. Given that magnesium is needed for a thousand of your body’s enzymatic functions, the majority of side effects people notice are positive ones.
You will not develop a dependency on MAG365, and it is safe to take long term, provided you do not have any kidney conditions. However, if you stop supplementing with magnesium without ensuring proper dietary magnesium intake, your symptoms of magnesium deficiency may resurface.
Once your MAG365 is activated, you can mix it with any liquid you like. Keep in mind MAG365 has a natural citrusy taste, so it is best mixed with a complimenting flavour. Teas, juices, smoothies, water infused with fruit, etc. all work well.
Magnesium is essential for healthy nervous system function. You need magnesium to adequately handle stress, but here’s the catch: Stress depletes existing magnesium stores from your body, so supplementation is especially crucial during times of stress. Please read our article about how magnesium helps stress to learn more.
The water does not need to be boiling in order to activate MAG365, however, it activates almost immediately in hot water. If you wish to use cold water, it can take up to 20 minutes to activate. You will know it is activated when the liquid is clear. Once the magnesium is activated, you can cool it down or add it to something else if you desire.
A small part of the population cannot take magnesium citrate, no matter how it is introduced. If this applies to you, we recommend you take our PrizMAG Pure Magnesium Bisglycinate, as it does not tend to affect the bowel.
No! Our Unflavoured MAG365 is additive-free. In our flavored MAG365 formulas, the only "additives" are real fruit extracts and stevia. Read more about our commitment to product purity here
Only you will know the answer to this, based on the symptoms you are experiencing. You may need a higher dose initially to build up your magnesium stores, before moving to a lower dose to prevent further deficiency. Most people find it beneficial to continuously supplement with magnesium, as daily stress depletes your magnesium stores, making it easy to become deficient.
Good news! Our magnesium is derived from sea water, and the citric acid is derived from sugar beets or cassava.
MAG365 is actually an alkalizing drink once it’s activated, so it should not aggravate your acid reflux when properly activated. Magnesium is actually recommended for those with acid reflux, as it helps to prevent the release of acid into the esophagus, and reduces the spasms of the lower esophageal sphincter.
Great question! MAG365 is slightly acidic, with the same pH as your skin, which is 4.9 on the pH scale. For comparison, cucumbers sit between 5.1 - 5.6 and bananas are around 5 on the pH scale. The average stomach can have a pH value of between 1.5 to 3.5. MAG365 is less acidic than the stomach and can actually have an alkalizing effect on the digestive system. In short: it does not lead to acid reflux and/or heartburn. Furthermore, the acidity level in MAG365 is fairly mild and shouldn’t harm your teeth. Once it is activated with hot water, MAG365 becomes magnesium citrate. MAG365 is made up of two ingredients: Magnesium Carbonate and Citric Acid. These ingredients, when combined with water, convert to ionic magnesium citrate. The addition of hot water causes the carbonate in the magnesium carbonate to disperse which causes a “fizz”. The magnesium ion is then forced to bind to the citric acid, creating ionic magnesium citrate. For more information on this process, see our article "Understanding Ionic."
Yes, MAG365 is safe for pregnancy. The body’s need for magnesium increases during pregnancy, and studies show it can help to ease the muscle cramps and pains commonly associated with pregnancy. Additionally, magnesium is important for the prevention of preeclampsia and toxaemia.
The body uses magnesium to make ATP, which every cell uses for energy. However, it also works to help muscles and nerves relax. As you’ve mentioned, most people find magnesium helps them sleep, but a small portion of the population finds magnesium has the opposite effect, giving them lots of energy. This does not mean you don’t need magnesium, it just means you should take it in the morning. And rest assured: This will still give you the benefit of a better night of sleep. If you prefer to take something right before bed for sleep, consider trying PrizMAG . It contains the amino acid, glycine, that has a calming effect on the mind and body. In PrizMAG, glycine is coupled with magnesium – which increases GABA and calms the nervous system, so you get a double dose of calm. You could even take a dose of MAG365 in the morning for energy, and a dose of PrizMAG at night to help you sleep.
The recommended dose is simply a guideline set in place by a governing body. Everyone’s need for magnesium varies, depending on dietary intake and stress-level, as magnesium is depleted in times of stress. Slowly increase your dose by ½ teaspoon daily. When your bowels are comfortably loose, you have reached your threshold for your magnesium requirements. We also recommend spreading your dosage throughout the day for maximum benefit, but don’t forget to save a dose for bedtime!
This actually means the magnesium is improving your sleep and allowing you to experience full REM cycles. Not only do we experience dreams during our REM cycle, but it is also the cycle of sleep that helps your memory and recall.

MAG365 consists of two ingredients: Magnesium Carbonate and Citric Acid. These ingredients, when combined with warm water, convert into “ionic magnesium citrate”. The addition of hot water causes the carbonate in the magnesium carbonate to disperse, which is what creates the “fizz”. The magnesium ion is then forced to bind to the citric acid, creating a highly bioavailable, ionic magnesium citrate. However, when you mix many other brands of magnesium citrate powder in a glass of water, there will be an obvious difference: There will be no “fizz” or activation process, and the magnesium powder will have settled on the bottom of the glass, leaving the liquid murky and unblended. Why is it that? Because MAG365 is an ionic solution. There is a difference in the science of how MAG365 magnesium citrate behaves, and how other magnesium citrate powders behave, and this is because most other magnesium citrate powders are not ionic. When you understand the science, you realize there is a big difference. Have a question that didn't get answered? Email us and we'd love to answer it for you!
Magnesium helps to calm the muscles and nerves, but it does not make you drowsy. Many people prefer to take it before bed, because the calming effect helps them to sleep more soundly. However, magnesium is also needed to make ATP, which is used by every cell in the body for energy, so it is fine to take at any time of day. In fact, we recommend dividing your dose throughout the day, with an additional dose at night.
