Is Ionic Magnesium Citrate Acidic?

Is Ionic Magnesium Citrate Acidic?

We are often asked if MAG365 Ionic Magnesium Citrate is acidic. Will it cause acid reflux or harm teeth?  These are great questions because MAG365 is slightly acidic, but there’s some nuance in that definition. The acidity level of MAG365 is actually fairly mild, with a pH value of 4.9 (“neutral” is number 7 on the pH scale). To put it into perspective, a cucumber has a pH level of around 5.1-5.6 and a banana sits around the number 5 mark.

Will MAG365 cause acid reflux or heartburn?

The average stomach can have a pH value of 1.5 to 3.5, meaning it’s highly acidic to begin with. (Stomach acid is a vital part of digestion, so this is a good thing!) Because it is less acidic than the stomach, MAG365 can have an alkalizing effect on the digestive system and will not lead to acid reflux and/or heartburn.

If you suffer from low stomach acid (a common side effect of aging) and typically experience difficulty digesting minerals, MAG365 has you covered: it’s an ionic magnesium citrate formula that is essentially "predigested" in the cup when warm water is added to it, so it's easily absorbed upon consumption.

Can MAG365 hurt your teeth?

Because MAG365 sits at 4.9 on the pH scale, it is considered fairly mild and it's generally gentle on the teeth. That said, if you are concerned, you can brush your teeth after consumption for peace of mind.

Why is MAG365 formulated at a pH level of 4.9?

We formulated MAG365 to have the same pH level as the skin. Human skin has a pH value of 4.9, and this serves a very important purpose: It keeps bacteria out. Formulating MAG365 at a pH level of 4.9 helps to keep bacteria out of your tub so you can rest assured you are consuming a clean and safe product.
