What Makes a Great Perimenopause Menopause Supplement?

Tammy-Lynn McNabb: Welcome to the show. I'm in sunny California with my daughter, who's playing Junior Olympics water polo. Nice to see you both. We're talking about a subject that often gets avoided—perimenopause and menopause. There's a stigma around it, but it's something we'll all go through at different levels and intensities. You don't have to be ashamed of it or suffer in silence. Welcome to the show, ladies. In your practice, what do women typically come to you about regarding perimenopause or menopause?

Meaghan Esser: The common symptoms of perimenopause and menopause include hormonal changes, mood swings, vaginal dryness, and hot flashes. Two main recommendations that have shown great success are liver support, such as milk thistle or other liver-supporting herbs, and magnesium. The liver helps regulate hormones, which can alleviate hot flashes and mood swings. Magnesium is crucial because it supports the liver, aids in toxin release, and is vital for hormone production. During times of high stress, like hormonal changes, you use up magnesium faster. Supplementing with magnesium can help reduce mood and sleep disturbances.

Tammy-Lynn McNabb: I remember telling a friend in her 60s that I was going to discuss menopause and vaginal dryness on the show, and she was mortified. But these are real issues, and we don't have to suffer silently. Many women feel a sense of loss during menopause, as it's a significant life change. Even though I was done having children in my 40s, there was still a sense of sadness knowing that I couldn't anymore. It's important to talk about these feelings to avoid isolation.

Meaghan Esser: It does feel like a part of youthfulness is being taken away. If we don't discuss it, it becomes isolating, and we think something's wrong with us. It's crucial to normalize these experiences through conversation.

Tammy-Lynn McNabb: Lynae, when you were developing the BF supplement in the lab, what ingredients did you include and why?

Lynae Morningstar: BF, which stands for Bone Formula, was created with women in mind, although it's great for men too. Some people call it their "best friend" because they notice a difference when they're not taking it. It includes nutrients important for bone health, which becomes crucial as estrogen levels drop during menopause. Many people have enough calcium but lack magnesium, D3, and K2, which are necessary to direct calcium to the bones and teeth.

Tammy-Lynn McNabb: Why is the combination of magnesium with these other nutrients important?

Lynae Morningstar: Calcium and magnesium work synergistically in the body. Many doctors recommend calcium for bone health, but we actually need more magnesium. Our bodies can recycle calcium, but magnesium is not as prevalent in our diet due to depleted soil and processed foods. Stressful lifestyles also deplete magnesium faster. An imbalance of too much calcium and not enough magnesium can lead to calcium deposits in organs, arteries, and joints, causing conditions like arthritis, cataracts, and bone spurs. Magnesium, D3, and K2 help move calcium to the bones and teeth and flush out the excess, making BF a great heart supplement too by preventing arterial calcium buildup.

Tammy-Lynn McNabb: Menopause is inevitable, but you can take steps to make it less painful and mitigate long-lasting effects. Thank you, ladies, for being on the show.
