Can magnesium make you pee more?

Can magnesium make you pee more?

Video Transcript:

Hello everyone, Meg Esser here, Registered Holistic Nutritionist with ITL Health. Today I’m answering a question I get asked a lot: can magnesium make you pee more?

The short answer is yes—but the real answer depends on why you’re peeing more.

Magnesium can make you pee more because it helps with water retention. If your body is holding onto excess water in areas it shouldn’t, magnesium can help release that fluid. Once your body lets go of it, the only way out is through your bladder. In that case, peeing more is actually a good thing, because unwanted water retention isn’t ideal for overall health.

That said, magnesium can also help you pee less often.

Magnesium supports both the nervous system and muscle function, including the muscles of the bladder. Research shows that magnesium may help reduce bladder spasms, which can otherwise cause frequent urges to urinate. It can also support proper bladder emptying, so you’re less likely to feel like you need to pee again shortly after going.

So while magnesium can increase urination in cases of water retention, it can also improve bladder control, reduce urgency, and support more complete emptying of the bladder.

If you’re dealing with water retention, frequent urination, mild incontinence, or bladder spasms, magnesium can be incredibly helpful.

At ITL Health, we offer PrizMAG Magnesium Capsules and Ionic Magnesium Citrate Powder—both highly bioavailable forms designed for excellent absorption.

All of our supplements are guaranteed for quality and purity. You can find them at your local health food store or through your preferred retailer.
Thanks so much for listening.
