Hello, everybody. Registered Holistic Nutritionist, Meaghan Esser with ITL Health. We've been getting a few questions about the timing of when to take vitamin D. So, should I take vitamin D in the morning or at night? Now the answer to this is it really doesn't matter when you take your vitamin D, there is no data or research to show that one time of day is better than the other.
Now I have a feeling we're getting some of these questions because there is some talk going around the internet. And some anecdotal evidence of some people saying when I take vitamin D before bed, I don't sleep as well. And the theory behind this is that but we get vitamin D from the sun, so vitamin D is a sunshine vitamin, and it's part of our circadian rhythm. We're not getting sunshine right before we're going to bed, we’re getting it as part of our waking process.
Now while that part is true, research shows that the vitamin D that we absorb from the sun and the vitamin D we absorb from supplements are utilized and activated differently in the body. So in terms of a vitamin D supplement, it should not matter what time of day we take it. I usually recommend that people do take it in the morning. It's nice to take it when you're eating, a little bit of fat helps this fat-soluble vitamin absorbed. And usually, during the day we're encountering people or encountering things that might harm our immune system or put it more to work.
So if we are out in public, and we're encountering viruses and bacterias it's just a little boost in the morning to help kind of activate our immune system into keeping it strong. We have an amazing product called Vitamin D Plus. This not only gives you your daily dose of vitamin D, but it also gives you magnesium, B12, and Vitamin K2, which all help vitamin D absorbed properly into the body and get utilized for proper use. Without magnesium, vitamin D will sit in your liver in an unused form until there's sufficient magnesium to activate it.
This is an amazing immune formula for the winter, highly encourage you to look into this one for yourself or your loved ones. If you already take vitamin D on its own go ahead and just take some magnesium alongside it to make sure that it can activate. We also have our MAG365 BF product which has vitamin D in it. A lot of people take this before bed because the magnesium helps them sleep and we have never heard people say that the vitamin D in this product is what keeps them awake at night.
